There are three things that Austin just does better: Music. Football. Food.
So, what brings you to Austin, TX? Did the Longhorns’ recent win against Notre Dame spark your interest? Maybe you’ve always wanted to come and check out the “Live Music Capital of the World” for yourself? Or are you drawn to the wonders of Texas BBQ?
Regardless of your excuse to come down and visit, here is Vaystays’ official destination guide to enjoying this wonderful city.
The Music Scene
Austin is home to some of the world’s most renown and numerous (more than 250!) live music venues. Whether your musical genre of choice is country, rock, rap, or anything and everything in between, Austin has it all.
We were going to list all of the top venues in Austin, then soon realized it would take up this entire post. Instead, here are just a handful of the most notable ones: The Broken Spoke, ACL Live at the Moody Theater, Stubb’s Bar-B-Q, The Mohawk, and of course Austin City Limits Festival (9/30–10/2 & 10/7–10/9) in Zilker Park.
You can see our closest properties to Zilker Park here!
Charlie Strong and the University of Texas Longhorn football program have officially arrived. This legendary program has gone through it’s fair share of ups — claiming 4 national titles, 32 conference titles, and boasting 56 All-Americans that have been through the program — and it’s downs. When talking about college football it’s not just the team that is legendary, but the stadium as well. Darrell K. Royal — Texas Memorial Stadium has been home for the Longhorns since the 1924 season and has a seating capacity of over 100,000, making it the ninth largest stadium in the world! Whenever you’re in town be sure to check out the schedule and go experience one of the best overall atmosphere’s in college football.
When it comes to food, Austin is a top contender amongst NYC, LA, and Chicago, but when it comes to BBQ specifically, there is no competition. There are three BBQ spots you cannot miss:
Stubbs — Yes this is the “mopping sauce” you can buy in stores but the brick and mortar is your go-to for the real Austin experience. Live music makes this the perfect Sunday Funday hangout!
Iron Works — Convenient and fast high quality BBQ located just a few blocks from the heart of 6th Street, making it the perfect spot before a night out.
Franklins — Featured in countless food shows and movies, Franklins may seem like a tourist trap but it’s 100% worth the hype. Get here by 9AM to make sure you don’t miss out on the days supply.
If BBQ isn’t your thing, Austin still has plenty to offer. Here are some fan-favorites:
Magnolia Cafe — Great for brunch in SoCo.
The Roaring Fork — Another great spot in downtown with happy hour and creative bites.
Truluck’s — For the Texas steak you came here for.
